🏠 Place Value & Face Value – What's the Difference?

1. 🆔 What is Face Value?

Face value is simply the digit itself – its own identity. No matter where it sits, the face value never changes. Just like you have the same name at home, at school, or in the park!

📌 Remember: Face value = the digit itself.

In 6, 3 2, the face value of 6 is 6, of 3 is 3, of 2 is 2.
In 4 0 5, the face value of 0 is 0.

What is the face value of 7 in 7, 8 9 0?

Place value is the value a digit gets from its position in a number. A digit in the Ones house is just itself, but in the Tens house it becomes 10 times bigger!

⚡ Rules of the house:

Ones place → digit × 1
Tens place → digit × 10
Hundreds place → digit × 100
Thousands place → digit × 1000

Let's see it with blocks: 🧱 = 100, 📏 = 10, ● = 1.

Total = 300 + 40 + 2 = 342.
