What is Comparing Numbers?

Comparing numbers helps us understand which number is greater, smaller, or equal. We use symbols like > (greater than), < (less than), and = (equal to). In Class 1, children begin by comparing small numbers (1–20) using objects. By Class 2 and 3, they compare larger numbers up to 1000 and learn to use the symbols correctly.

Why this topic matters: Comparing numbers is used everywhere – in shopping, sports scores, measurements, and daily life decisions.

What is Ascending & Descending Order?

Ascending order means arranging numbers from smallest to largest. Descending order means arranging from largest to smallest. Students gradually move from simple sequences to larger number sets.

Greatest & Smallest Numbers from Given Digits

Students learn how to arrange digits to form the greatest or smallest possible number. This strengthens understanding of place value and number comparison.

What are Roman Numerals?

Roman numerals use letters like I, V, X, L, and C to represent numbers. Students learn to read and write numerals from 1 to 100 and understand rules like repetition and subtraction.

GPN Tip for Parents: Practice comparisons during daily routines and point out Roman numerals on clocks and monuments.
