Section A: Statements (10 Questions)

1. Convert to indirect: She said, "I am going to the market."
Answer: She said that she was going to the market. - Present continuous becomes past continuous, pronoun changes.
2. Convert to indirect: He said, "I have finished my homework."
Answer: He said that he had finished his homework. - Present perfect becomes past perfect.
3. Convert to indirect: They said, "We will help you."
Answer: They said that they would help me. - "Will" becomes "would", "you" becomes "me".
4. Convert to indirect: She said, "I can speak French."
Answer: She said that she could speak French. - "Can" becomes "could" in indirect speech.
5. Convert to indirect: He said, "I may come tomorrow."
Answer: He said that he might come the next day. - "May" becomes "might", "tomorrow" becomes "the next day".
6. Convert to indirect: She said, "I was reading a book."
Answer: She said that she had been reading a book. - Past continuous becomes past perfect continuous.
7. Convert to indirect: He said, "I have been waiting for an hour."
Answer: He said that he had been waiting for an hour. - Present perfect continuous becomes past perfect continuous.
8. Convert to indirect: They said, "We are playing football."
Answer: They said that they were playing football. - Present continuous becomes past continuous.
9. Convert to indirect: She said, "I must finish this work."
Answer: She said that she had to finish that work. - "Must" becomes "had to", "this" becomes "that".
10. Convert to indirect: He said, "I shall visit you next week."
Answer: He said that he would visit me the following week. - "Shall" becomes "would", "next week" becomes "the following week".

Section B: Questions (10 Questions)

11. Convert to indirect: She said to me, "Are you coming to the party?"
Answer: She asked me if I was coming to the party. - Yes/No question uses "if" or "whether", word order changes.
12. Convert to indirect: He said, "Where do you live?"
Answer: He asked where I lived. - WH-question keeps question word, changes to statement word order.
13. Convert to indirect: They said to her, "What are you doing?"
Answer: They asked her what she was doing. - Present continuous question becomes past continuous statement.
