Imagine you're in a shop. You want to say, "I like this shirt," or maybe, "I want that one." You're also thinking, "My choice is final." The words in bold—this, that, my—are determiners. They help you point to things (demonstratives) and show ownership (possessives). Let's explore how they work.
Demonstratives: this, that, these, those. Possessives: my, your, his, her, its, our, their.
What are Demonstratives?
Demonstratives "demonstrate" or point out specific nouns. They tell us which one we are talking about and whether it is near or far.
This, That, These, Those
| Determiner | Distance | Number | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| This | Near (เคฏเคน) | Singular | This book is mine. |
| That | Far (เคตเคน) | Singular | That car is fast. |
| These | Near (เคฏे) | Plural | These flowers are beautiful. |
| Those | Far (เคตे) | Plural | Those stars are bright. |
What are Possessive Determiners?
Possessive determiners show ownership or belonging. They always come before a noun. They are sometimes called possessive adjectives.
Possessive Determiners Chart

| She | her | Her dress is pink. |
| It | its | The dog wagged its tail. |

Important: Don't confuse "its" (belonging to it) with "it's" (short for 'it is').
