Why Choose a Career in Polytechnic?

When a student wants to pursue a career in engineering, there are two ways to get that degree. The first two years in higher secondary education and then 4 years in the engineering programme or a 3-year diploma course (polytechnic course) followed by 3 years in engineering. Either way, the student has to spend 6 years in becoming an engineer. Here are a few reasons why choosing a polytechnic course over HSC is better for an aspiring student.

  • Money-saving: Polytechnic courses cost lesser than other courses. The overall fee for the full course is around INR 10,000/- so those who are from the middle-class background can easily afford this programme.
  • Opportunity for a part-time job: One of the benefits of doing a polytechnic course is that the individual will automatically become eligible for a job right after graduating from the course. So in special cases where the student is not interested to continue the studies after the diploma or if the family is not in a condition to support higher studies, the student can easily find a suitable job and can think about taking a job later on.
  • Placement opportunities: After completion of the polytechnic course the students can get placed according to their skills whereas in higher secondary education students have no placement, they have to wait till the completion of their engineering degree.
  • Can apply for government recruitment exams: After the completion of the polytechnic course or diploma, the students become a junior engineer and can apply for recruitment exams for positions such as technical assistant, JE, Loco pilot, PSU and many other government posts.

How to Prepare for Polytechnic Entrance Exams?

Polytechnic entrance exams require consistent efforts and proper time management. Students must focus on the syllabus and make notes for better preparation. Here are some of the useful tips that you should follow while preparing for Polytechnic entrance exams.

Create a well-planned schedule for preparation. Candidates should devote equal time to all the subjects.

Practice is the key to score well in these exams. Solve a range of problems on a daily basis to get a hang of the type of questions being asked in the exam.

One must be familiar with the paper pattern and he marking scheme. Concentrate on topics that have high weightage and prepare accordingly.

Choosing the right study material is very important. Do not refer to different books at the same time. Select 1-2 books for preparation to avoid any confusion.

Attempt mock tests and sample papers to increase your speed and accuracy. Analyze each paper before solving the next one.

To crack any exam, revision plays a vital role. Revise all the subjects thoroughly on a regular basis.

A polytechnic course is a great path to pursue engineering. A good score in the polytechnic entrance exam means a better chance of getting admission to a good polytechnic college. Students who graduate from polytechnic courses or have a diploma are more equipped with practical knowledge related to the field of engineering. Individuals who graduate from engineering who are also diploma holders are more likely to get placed than students who only have an engineering degree.
